How to upload map tiles to MapTiler Cloud

In this article, you will learn how to upload your tiles to the MapTiler Cloud via MapTiler Engine and directly in MapTiler Cloud administration. We'll also take a look at supported formats and viewers of uploaded tiles.

Important notice

You can upload only one file to MapTiler Cloud service with a Free plan subscription. For further information, read about different MapTiler Cloud plans.

Tiles in MapTiler Cloud

Tiles management on MapTiler Cloud can be found in the section “Tiles” in the left panel.

At the moment MapTiler Cloud supports two tiles containers: MBTiles and OGC GeoPackage. The supported content is either raster tiles (PNG, JPG, or WebP) or vector tiles (MVT format according to Vector Tile Specification).

Uploading from MapTiler Engine

Uploading via MapTiler Engine is very simple. When you finish processing your dataset after choosing MBTiles or GeoPackage format, click “Continue” in the right bottom corner.

Then on the next page choose the “Upload to Cloud” option.

On the next page, you can choose the name of the tileset which will be uploaded on the MapTiler Cloud. Here you can also see the account, to which your tiles will be uploaded to. Click the “Start Upload” button and you'll trigger the uploading process.

When the upload is finished you receive the information that your tileset is online and you can open tiles in MapTiler Cloud administration by clicking on the “Open in Browser” button.

In the “Tiles” management, click on the “new tileset” button.

Here you can “drag and drop” your tileset or choose it by “Select from your computer” or either upload it directly from Google Drive using the ID of the file. At the moment you can upload only one file in the process of Uploading. If you need to upload more than one file you have to repeat the process.

When the process is finished you will see the preview of your tileset and the data for use with different viewers.

Embeddable viewer

Insert the pre-generated code into your page and use it as a map. Embedding with an iframe is the simplest way.

Raster tiles

You can choose from several pre-generated JavaScript viewers when the upload is finished.

Using WMTS you can open the tileset in different GIS software.
