One license is limited to one computer at a time. In case of a hardware change, re-installation of the OS, or migration to another computer, the MapTiler Desktop license must be deactivated. MapTiler Desktop is ready to accept small changes in your machine - changed hard disk, updated CPU, increased RAM. But these changes cannot be done together, as this could lead to losing the activation.
When you buy a higher version of MapTiler Desktop, you should activate the license key. The process is described in a standalone how-to.
There are several methods of deactivation and we'll explain them all in this article.
Deactivation in MapTiler Desktop (recommended)
To deactivate, go to the main menu Account → License key and click on Deactivate. This is the preferred way of key deactivation.
The software automatically deactivates with uninstalling as well.
Deactivation in MapTiler Cloud (emergency)
MapTiler Cloud offers simple Desktop key administration with an option to deactivate your key. After you sign in, go to Desktop Administration where you can add, see already connected, and manage your MapTiler Desktop keys.
MapTiler Desktop license key can be immediately deactivated here in case you lost access to your computer due to an unexpected incident like a hardware failure.
Note: this option is for emergency situations only and therefore can be used only twice a year!
Contact MapTiler Support (last hope)
In exceptional cases described above, when you have previously not connected your accounts, the software can be deactivated manually. In such a case, contact us. However, be ready that this method takes some time. To avoid this, connect your Desktop key with a Cloud account!
