How to fix license activation issue (SSL/TLS certificate)

If you cannot activate your MapTiler Engine software due to an SSL/TLS certificate problem, this article will show you how to fix the issue. The issue is caused by the fact that MapTiler Engine is not able to securely communicate with the licensing server.

This problem was fixed in MapTiler Engine 11.3. Proceed to the download section to get the latest version of MapTiler Engine.

What's causing the issue

The issue occurs due to a TLS or certificate error, which is most probably caused by MITM (man-in-the-middle) attempts on corporate networks, or, if on Unix operating systems (macOS, Linux, BSD, etc.), it's caused by out-of-date or missing "CA certificates". This means either keeping your system itself up-to-date or manually updating the CA certs.

The Solution

Windows

• Open Internet Explorer (or Microsoft Edge) and type "https://wyday.com" in the browser window. If it does work, try again activation within MapTiler Engine
• Disable, stop or pause any firewall, or an anti-virus/anti-malware program and try the activation again. It seems that something on the computer is blocking or "filtering" communication to/from our Engine application
• You can also try the activation process using Safe mode. If you succeed, then you need to configure your computer correctly and add our MapTiler Engine software into the whitelist (or exclude it from scanners)

Mac OS

• Open Safari browser and type "https://wyday.com" in the browser window. If it does work, try again activation within MapTiler Engine
• Follow the same steps as for Windows - deactivate any firewall or other 3rd party software, try activation in Safe mode of macOS (see the support article)

Linux / BSD

Open any browser and type "https://wyday.com" in the browser window. If it does work, try again activation within MapTiler Engine

Update or install CAcerts:

• CentOS / Fedora: read this article
• Debian / Ubuntu based distribution:

apt-get install ca-certificates

• On Linux and BSD, valid CAcerts must be installed on the machine and must be installed in the same location. MapTiler Engine checks for the CAcerts in the following locations and order and stops at the first one found (whether or not it contains valid and up-to-date certificates):

SSL_CERT_FILE environment variable
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
/etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt
/usr/share/ssl/certs/ca-bundle.crt
/usr/local/share/certs/ca-root.crt
/etc/ssl/cert.pem
/var/lib/ca-certificates/ca-bundle.pem
/etc/openssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
